The Scriptures

Here are some of my favorite Scriptures and a little background to why

7/10/11 – Hebrews 4:16 – Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

I’ve been dwelling on this verse for a while.  Many times in my life I don’t feel confident to approach the Lord because of His holiness and my weakness (I think there is some truth to that), but this verse says that I can come with confidence.  Not because of me, but because of Jesus Christ.  He is our mediator to God, the Father!  I love the imagery of the “throne of grace.”

7/27/10 – 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

Without love, we are nothing…

3/9/10 – Proverbs 29:20 – Do you see a man hasty in his words?  There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Early on in my faith journey I was deeply impacted by the fact that we talk too much.  A lot of the wisdom literature has places where it talks about talking too much or talking without thinking.  I read this verse recently and was reminded that we need to watch what we say.

10/19/09 – Matthew 5:3-10

This is one of the thought blocks that I am trying to memorize.  I love the Beatitudes.

9/25/09 – Revelation 1:12-17

This is one of my favorite passages because (1) it gives a detailed description of Christ in His glorified state and (2) I absolutely love John’s reaction.  “I fell over as though dead.”  I can only imagine some of the reactions biblical characters had when they encountered their Creator.  And I can only imagine what it is going to be like when Christ returns.  I hope I will have that reverence and fear to fall over as though dead.

9/13/09 – Psalm 23:1 – The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want

This verse really spoke to me after I heard a sermon from Francis Chan.  He kept emphasizing “I shall not want.”  I want to store up my treasures in heaven, not here on earth.

9/13/09 – Psalm 66:16 – Come and hear all who fear God and I will tell you of what He has done for my soul

This is one of my newer favorite verses.  I love hearing and sharing stories about what God is doing in our lives.  If we don’t have consistent new stories of God, then is He really working in our lives?
